Many Troubled Teens from Connecticut Will Benefit From a Therpeutic Treatment Program
Lava Heights Academy uses performing arts: dance, drama, music and art as an avenue to deliver life changing therapy to struggling teens. Gone are the days when the only form of treatment was merely talking through a person's problem. Although this can be helpful and we do still offer traditional, one-on-one sessions with a therapist, we put our students in situations where they bond with our therapists and other staff members on a daily basis. This helps the teens to begin to genuinely trust and really open up to us.
Teenagers are faced with such challenging circumstances in today’s society. Less and less of them are open to sharing their difficulties with people that can help them. The pressures of growing up push them in all sorts of directions and it has become increasingly difficult to discern the sorts of problems that they are dealing with. Our staff members at Lava Heights Academy have come to understand that certain tools can be utilized to break the cloak of secrecy and mystery that surrounds the issues that teens are facing. We have found that through expressing themselves through performance and art, troubled teens are capable of letting their guards down and sharing their feelings like never before.
Our goal is to help troubled boys and girls overcome the emotional and behavioral issues that have stunted their mental growth and are now causing tremendous personal turmoil and family chaos. We help teens explore who they are thoroughly and completely, as opposed to letting one part or generalized issue take precedence over who they are overall.

Does your teenager slam the door to her bedroom? Does she huff “mom, you never understand!” Maybe your teen screams “I hate you!” but, the most important thing to remember is not to take it personally. Taking it personally means you do what we all do when hurt: either close off, or lash out, or both. Which just worsens a tough situation for all concerned.
Give whatever support is necessary for your child to meet your expectations. If your teen does not seem to be working hard in school, try to find out if that's because he needs to buckle down and do the work without getting distracted by the internet, in which case you need to be present at homework time, or because he needs tutoring in a specific subject to catch up.
